Funny but this thread isnt about whats happening in 2011, if you want to discuss that start a thread.
I'm fed up with rugby types highjacking football threads. If we wanted to discuss rugby
we'd start a rugby thread.
I couldnt give a toss what happens in 2011, I have absolutely zero interest in rugby which is why
I dont comment in threads on the subject.
I know its all light hearted but it ticks me off

No one can grumble about their country not reaching the finals. Yes some teams on paper
look like they get an easier route to the finals but NZ are bo meens a football nation
which was something that was highlighted when they played the 2 playoff matches against Bahrain.
Bahrain are little fish in the football world but they made NZ work VERY hard for a result
and the kiwis only won by 1 goal over the 2 games.
It could be argued that Scotland should easilly have beaten Macedonia and Iceland both home and away
which would seen them qualify but they didnt capitalise on their chances and are now watching the finals on tv
Sky TV are showing every game on the finals live and tvnz are also showing a few games.
There isnt the same hype or build up down here, kiwis find it hard to get excited about anything
and they havent got a clue when it comes to football culture, The game here rates below rowing and netball
so the natives are never going to get worked up about the events in south africa.
We've just watched the 1st England game that was on at 6.30am. My wife has left town for the night
and i've had 6 british mates round to watch the game with a full english thrown in at half time.
i dont know of any pubs that are screening the games near me so we'll be watching them all from home
on the 42" screen with full surround sound turned up high

please why oh why are we ever suprised with an England performance like the one today.

We are crap!

Typical really spend years talking about it,planning it,pay a fortune to players and then they dont bother to turn up AGAIN!

Let not forget this was the USA! Always someone elses fault!

I think its long overdue that we ditch England and set up a British team as lets face it that would give us a better selection than what we have now.

Yet despite ALL THAT I will still be watching and hoping that they win and progress but on that effort I say go the All Whites!

I have noticed loads of England/St. George's flags around, including the little ones on the car windows. First time in 3 years I've seen them! Made me feel quite patriotic. However, the NZ flag flies most of the time from various houses in my area and every day from my kid's primary school so whether I'd even notice if someone flew one specifically for the All Whites or not I doubt.

I used to be pretty fanatical about supporting England, I am still supporting them this time around, but enjoying having the opportunity to support the All Whites too!

My alarm went off at 6 this morning but I chose to stay in bed ... fortunately!

Oh man that cheered me up no end, funniest thing i've read for ages.
TBH i thought we did ok but Rob Green isnt known to have the safest hands in
the game so it wasnt really a surprise when the useless plonker made the ridiculous
school boy error that single handedly cost us the win.
Not that i'm bitter

We weren't that bad, we created far more than they did, bossed the game for almost all of the second half and were unlucky not to win.

We were better value for a draw than the French were the morning before for example.

Capello did some daft things like risking Milner and King and keeping faith with SWP and Lenon when neither had the guts of the guile to get to the bye line to put in crosses - Lenon was leaving that to Johnson, who did well.

Green's error was worse than schoolboy but then that sort of thing happens at every level in the game.

Hopefully this is another "slow start" for England at a tournament, which those with a decent memory will know is often the case.

Let's just keep behind the lads and keep on cheering on good football.

Honduras and N Korea better than NZ?

discuss....

Serbia 0 - All Whites 1

mmmm....

IMO the egg-chasers seem to have a problem that their game is a true minority sport in world terms so they feel they have to say something on the real threads about "FOOTBALL" but then I suppose if they live in NZ then they might be fooled into thinking that Richie McCaw farting in the wrong direction is more important than the All Whites taking out Serbia in a friendly.....

I was pleasantly surprised yesterday to see a car with one of those window flags for the All Whites.

I am English, but I think I'm supporting NZ this year......we all love the underdogs, don't we!

Agree, but Green played for a poor team who struggled last term as did James at least Hart was playing well in a confident succesful team.

well Capelo has probably blown his chance of blooding Hart (with this result keeping the pressure on) so he's in a corner on this position now.....could he risk Hart??

maybe

We weren't that bad, Gerrard, Lampard, Heskey and the defence were pretty solid... Lennon and Wright-Phillips need to step up to the game, they disappointed me... Rooney didn't look that interested to me and was picking the ball up to deep as we needed him to remain upfront more often so we had a better target throughout...

But as first games go, in that you never want to lose, we'll still top the group... Overall i'll give them a 6/10

They are purely opposition to be beaten on the way to the final.
