Welcome Bay - Tauranga
Hi, we come over in January and been looking at houses to rent in Welcome bay. I have also found a great school Selwyn Ridge. We have really fallen for this but after just doing a search on here we came across a thread that is now closed with a few bad reviews. Can anyone help?

Re: Welcome Bay - Tauranga
if you are talking about the school you have read through the last Ministry report here
Selwyn Ridge School 07/06/2012 - Education Review Office
remember decile rating is dependent on the affluence of the area, lower the decile rating the poorer the area, generally, and the more funding from the Government. It does not relate to the performance of the school.

Yes we like the school but need some feedback on the area.

I'm not sure what posts you have read. Threads automatically close after a year of no posts.
There are a couple of folk on here that have relocated or are about to relocate there.
Hopefully some Tauranga folk will be along soon to share their opinions.

Hello, I'm from the UK, but live in Australia with hubby who is a Kiwi. We're going to relocate to Tauranga, my inlaws live in Omokoroa and we've just bough a great house in Welcome Bay in the Selwyn Ridge catchment zone. I wish we could just up and go right now.

Hi,
I live in Tauranga now. Been here since early November 2014. We're renting in Bethlehem.
Discounted Welcome Bay when we were looking at possible places to live as it's a bit too far out for me commuting to Hamilton.
Nothing wrong with Welcome Bay. Quite like the area and it has easy access to the coast at Papamoa (Pommiemoa) or East to Te Puke/Whakatane via a great rural road over or around the Papamoa Hills. It's also right on the 29 so easy access to Rotorua, Hamilton and Auckland.
Welcome Bay to Tauranga Hospital shouldn't cause any problems in the Tauranga rush hour which lasts 10 mins!!! Unlikely to find any short cuts. The UK and even AUS may have motorway's, A roads, B roads then country roads all interlinking.....here there's a state highway and that's about your lot unless you wanna double the journey!
Sorry, can't help with schools other than reading the ERO report. These are done every 5 years I think so unless it's a current one you aren't going to get the best idea what the school is like.
One option that we have found is to speak to a pre-school teacher and ask them their opinion. Obviously they deal with the schools a lot when the pre-school kids move across so the pre-school teachers at the surrounding kindergarden's / private nursery's get to know a lot about the schools, teachers and how good they are in real life.

Re: Welcome Bay - Tauranga
We moved to Tauranga end of November, from Hutt, Wellington, the difference is amazing. There is so much to do here, the beaches are incredible, the shopping is great, and the weather is very different from windy Wellington, as I said on another post I bloody love it. I don't know much about Welcome Bay, We're in Te Puna, but Tauriko is a good area as is Bethlehem, and only 10-12 minutes to the hospital for other half from Te Puna. Other half has meetings with the head of the police for Bay Of Plenty, in one of them he told him about a few areas that were becoming a problem due to gang members moving out of Auckland and moving to the Bay. If you need any info, pm me. Only down side, housing is expensive due to Aucklanders selling up and moving here.

Re: Welcome Bay - Tauran
Hi, hoping to view a house in Welcome bay this week. We are currently in Otumoetai but I'm not liking it at all.
Any information on where not to go will be greatly received.
I love Bethleham but nothing in our price rang. Gutted.
Anyone else in Welcome Bay?
Families with young children?

Re: Welcome Bay - Tauranga
Hi everyone,
Just on the off chance does anyone know of any rentals coming up?
We are desperate to be in Welcome Bay as I really like the schools.
Have been looking on Trademe but things are either too small or I'm not getting any responses.
Family of 5.

I have been in Welcome bay since last November. I love the community feeling, rural aspects and ease of getting to work at the hospital. I can choose yo go on SH29 via Greerton or SH2 towards Cameron Road. Either way generally 9 mins at best. 20 at worst. Takes longer to find a park near the hospital LOL! Happy to meet up or pm me if any further advice needed
