Underground house
I often dreamed of building one of those earthshippy underground houses but in light of the recent earthquakes I'm wondering how on earth these houses would fair ... would they just get squashed if they happened to be near a fault line.
Do underground houses exist in other earthquake prone countries, do we have some already in NZ and do they stand up ok?
Thinking about it we do have cellars and basements and stuff don't we, wonder what happens if they're unlucky enough to be smack bang on top of a fault line?

Have no technical knowledge of this whatsoever, but like you I would imagine they would just smoosh in on themselves? I did read that one of the people who died in last weeks earthquake was in a log cabin that collapsed - can't be any worse than that.

I wouldn't mind an underground house.
