Stuff News: Facebook hack targets NewZealanders.
From this article on Stuff yesterday evening.
A Facebook hack targeting New Zealand users has the ability to change their passwords.
Facebook messaging services are being compromised to send a message to Facebook friends, claiming the account holder is in a YouTube video.
The message reads: "It's you [account holder's name]!", or "Is this yours?" and could be mistaken for a harmless message.
If clicked, the link asks for a password login, and then forwards the message to more people.

I'm still annoyed about getting spam e-mails because Domino's Pizza couldn't get themselves together to implement proper IT security. Why do they even need to collect my "data"? I ordered pizza FFS.
Can't we levy a substantial fine for every users data that is compromised to make sure companies take IT security very seriously?
"Businesses are not obliged to notify the Privacy Commissioner of data breaches, although a law change has been in the wings for several years that would make that mandatory in some circumstances.
The law change would bring New Zealand into line with rules that apply in most OECD countries." Get it done!

Can't see any real benefit there.
Best advice is to use a non-critical email address and throw-away password (ie <not> your internet banking credentials), on such apps.
