Schools
Hi, just looking for some advice please. What year groups would my children go into in NZ?
Eldest is in year 9 birthday in August.
12 year old birthday in December current year 7.
6 year old birthday September current year 1.
If we came at the start of the new academic year Feb 2019 what year would they start in?
Also we could move this time next year when eldest potentially moved into year 10, or let her complete her GCSE's here and move then(which she would prefer)
With the NCEA system is it best to start in year 10 or year 11? trying to match the two education systems is hard.
Thank you x

This Wiki link is pretty good.

Types of schools by years used to be explained by a nifty chart but seems to have disappeared but I suppose the info is there.

Re: Schools
my eldest left yr 6 from the UK and went into a year 6/7 class, as a yr 6, (10 yrs old), having been through the UK system she found the schooling here boring and when it came time to move up she missed yr 7 and went straight into yr 8. this did mean she went to college, yr 9, when she was 12 and not 13.
My son came in yr 2 here and is now in yr 8, 12 yrs old last Dec.

Re: Schools
Thank you for your replies, I contacted the ministry and they said eldest would stay in year 9 but the other two would move up a year. I’m guessing it depends what their school thinks when they assess their levels?
