retiring in New Zealand
My husband is a Kiwi. We plan to retire there as he is homesick.
What steps do I need to take as a US citizen to immigrate to New Zealand when we get ready to retire?

A good first step (if you haven't already taken it) is to check out the NZIS page on family migration:
http://www.immigration.govt.nz/migration/family.html
The links presented at the bottom of that page seem pretty useful, too.
Cheers,
Peter

Contact the NZ Embassy, Washington DC. You will need to allow time for obtaining the
necessary required documentation ie: Police reports, medical etc.
Check with the IRS re any taxes you may be required to pay.

Or visit http://www.immigration.govt.nz
You will be able to become a NZ citizen 2 years after going there. As both NZ and the
US allow dual citizenship you will not lose your US citizenship when you become a New
Zealander.
If your husband only has a green card and not US citizenship he should think
about naturalising before he leaves the US. He will not lose his NZ citizenship
by doing so.
