Hi all,

I've been in touch with an accredited employer who have said, as long as my trade qualifications check out, they would be willing to offer me a job.

The starting wage is far from great, around $27 an hour. This would be supplemented by an Armed Forces pension and savings for the first year. Hopefully at the end of year 1 I'll get a pay rise/promotion.

So to the point.

I know roughly what I will be taking home each week, and I want to make sure it's do-able. So, is there a site, such as money super market for NZ?

Hoping there is and it will save me time searching for various different suppliers.

That's the problem, don't know yet. It's a nationwide company so could in theory end up anywhere.

This makes it difficult to work out cost of living as costs vary depending on where. While I was speaking to the employer, I mentioned Chch and he was positive that I would be able to get a position there. So that's what I'm basing everything off.

Hi Bobogib,

unfortunately only Countdown has an online supermarket price list so you can't really compare between the three major players But if you check the prices for your food and household expenses on their website at least you should get an idea how much it will cost you to live here. Remember though that fruit & veg are seasonally priced.
