We also have a three year old that isn't as expensive( yet) !!
Oh and I forgot $8000 for braces this year to come, ouch.
I don't know how parents cope that have kids that are like two years apart.
Honestly speaking it isn't fair to encourage people that are gonna struggle ( this isn't at pom by the way) when they get here
Thanks Gina and Danny for your genuine reply. My partner and I really have no idea how much kids cost, but you have given me an eye opening experience!

You're right, I wouldn't encourage a move here if the salary is too low and I think the OP's salary will be too low. It would be financial suicide at best, which is a shame.

So. Is it, in general, agreed then.

$50/60K pa in ChCh area is too low for a migrant family with 2 kids . They will more than struggle.

Is it generally agreed that $100K pa in the ChCh area is survivable for a migrant family with 2 kids , however there will be little, if any, $$ left over to play with. This assumes paying rent or mortgage is part of the costs.

So, to that end , Mrs Chippy Giles would need to be in work for the other $40K. Would also need child support benefit or similar ,if it is possible to gain that + NZ residency to avail themselves of opportunities to move areas .

Has any of you as a family with kids, come with one salary of around the $60K mark . Survived that initially and now have your partner working to make ends meet. Looking to a long term NZ future.

We came 10 years ago to just one job, 2 small children. Salary was about $70k.
We managed, but it was touch and go and within a year the wife was working. We brought money from house sale but not a lot.
Prices have risen dramatically in 10 years and I know we would not survive on on wage now.
