New Zealand working holiday visa
Hello Everyone,
i have a queiry that i hope you can help with. My partner and i have now moved further through the process and as we have 24 points are unable to get PR. However we have been advised that a 9 month visa will almost certainly be issued for us, but more interestingly we are still young enough to qualify for a working holiday visa for 1yr.
My question is... can we seek employment with this visa, i am given to understand that its primarily for 18 - 30 yr olds who are travelling and just want to make some cash. So how receptive are NZ employers to this as a working visa ( ie career jobs rather than fillers). My partner is a teacher and is hoping to temp teach while she is looking for permanent jobs.
Thanks for your help
Paul
septmenber is not far off and thats when we're hoping to be in NZ!!!

Re: New Zealand working holiday visa
Hi
We also only had 24 points.
NZIS have allowed us to get a work deferral visa which allows the principal applicant to seek employment whilst there, we have 3mths now to leave the UK and then 6mths out there to find work. This visa however only allows the principal applicant to travel, I as the spouse have to apply for a separate temporary visa - I think I will go for the working holiday visa so that I can at least work whilst there.
I don't think that you can get a career job on a working holiday visa. Career jobs tend to ask for work permits or proof of residency.
It's worth going for the deferral visa as once you have a job PR shouldn't be a problem.
Good Luck
Karen

The job situation for teachers depends on whether your partner is a = primary or
secondary teacher, with secondary teachers being in much = greater demand, especially
maths, science or IT.
Primary teachers are usually in oversupply in cities where there is a = college
of education, Auckland, Hamilton, Palmerston North, Wellington, = Christchurch
and Dunedin.
Having said that an experienced overseas trained teacher from a 1st = world English
speaking country will be competitive in the job market for = the many casual,
relieving and maternity leave vacancies that arise.
You partner must do two things right now.
1 Apply to NZQA to have his/her qualifications assessed for salary and = teacher
registration. Pay will be at an unqualified rates unless he/she = has an assessment
from NZQA. Processing times are 8 weeks and up, so = apply now. The form is available
at www.nzqa.govt.nz
2 Apply to the Teacher Registration Board for registration. I can't = remember the
address but there is a link from the NZQA site. TRB = properly wont need the NZQA
report as they get 100's of UK applications, = but you must have the NZQA unless you
want to be paid a pittance as an = untrained teacher.
Your chances of scoring a "career" job on a working holiday visa are = governed by
your skills and occupation.
