It shook the house up here in Wanganui. The house shook and swayed. A photo fell to the floor.
I ran outside and stood in the garden and felt the earth moving under my feet. Yes I was scared but I had my husband with me.

It must be extremely unnerving feeling the earth vibrating under you feet like that.

It wasn't in Wellington, it was near Eketahuna, 150 kms northeast.

Yup. Felt it well and truly here. A long shaky roll rather than a jolt. I really, don't like the things at all.
Geonet report and map
edit to add for Sue.
We were 230kms, as the crow flies, from the epicentre at Eketahuna. On the top of the South Island.

we were driving back from Wellington CBD and felt nothing. got home and the fish tanks had slopped a bit and a few cans/bottles had fallen over in the larder.
InLaws are making their way down from Auckland to us their in Stratford today and they felt it, not sure exactly how they feel about it or how strong it was for them but said the blinds rattled.

Earlier this afternoon I mentioned taking a road trip up through Wellington and across to Hawke's Bay in a couple of weeks' time, so I accept full responsibility for this. Sorry guys! Seriously though, glad not to hear of much in the way of damage or injury but hope things calm down for you all up there.
Still taking the road trip though, relocating a 2-berth camper from Chch to Auckland for Lucky Rentals - first time in the NI for 2.5 years .

I am no longer a virgin and the earth defiantly moved for me! Took me a while to realise what was happening, but thankfully nothing broken in Lower Hutt!

Phew!
Glad to hear that none of our members were hurt or suffered any property damage (so far). How do you guys stand it?

It reached just far enough south to rain here and get my trousers rather wet on the walk to work this morning. Fine now though, but Christchurch needed a bit of rain having had only 2mm in 20 days beforehand! Grass in our garden is dry.

Was standing at the base of Mount Ngauruhoe, an active volcano and it was very easily felt. No one was particularly disturbed but there was some consideration given to the relationship between earthquakes and eruptions.
Early that day we were in the Lahar dangerzone, which might have been a bit more concerning.
Basically it was all good.
