Living without car in Auckland CBD
Do we need a car if living and working in Auckland CBD. I live in US and we use car for day-to-day activities, going to work, grocery etc. We are planning a move to New Zealand soon and would ideally like to live a life without car - we would just love to just walk around to get into grocery and other stores and use public transportation to commute to work (better walk if we find job in CBD itself ). Is this even possible?

Not only possible, but preferable.
When I lived in a central city I never had a car - just caught the bus around, and when I needed to go on trips would hire a car - I think you can hire a car here for around $40-50 a day.
From CBD you can easily get out to Sylvia Park for your retail shopping (like Xmas gifts etc) on the train from Britomart - hugely preferable to driving. Or you can get up to the Shore to go to the beach, on a bus...

Definitely don't need a car if you live in Auckland CBD. You can walk to theatre, cinema, loads of restaurants, Britomart (train station), Viaduct, art gallery, library etc. and save lots of money not having one.
