Re: Kiwi drivers
For the first time in the 3 and a half years here, I've agreed with John Key on something!!!!
I never thought this would happen
John Key: Tourist key-snatching could lead to a 'terrible incident' | Stuff.co.nz

Re: Kiwi drivers
I was scared to death when I first moved here, but I'm used to it now. I haven't had any major mishaps, but quite a few 'WTF' moments when people have done odd things. As a UK driver, I had got used to not using my left hand mirror much. In NZ, you need to use that mirror ! People will pass on the left, merge on the left, sneak up on you on the left...
I have actually improved my own driving now, because I watch everyone else on the road. I no longer assume that everyone knows what they are doing - the vast majority do and are very competent drivers here but there are some who should be fitted with warning signs :-)

Re: Kiwi drivers
Technically I think it's a stereotype to say Kiwi drivers are crap, but yes , of course not all Kiwi drivers are crap but the ones that are do such a spectacularly good job of it!

Re: Kiwi drivers
Then where have you been.
Lets not forget 200kmh is only 120mph. I've traveled from Dover to Manchester at higher speeds than that only dropping bellow 100mph at junctions,
its not that fast and its not difficult to not get caught.
I've gone over 275kmh on more than one occassion , again its not difficult, in fact its easier in NZ as there are so few police and almost zero cameras.
Its not meant as a boast just pointing out that because you dont see it doesnt mean its not going on all around you

Re: Kiwi drivers
This whole foreign driving thing drives me insane! We have lived in chch for 2 years, before that we have lived in Aus, France, Spain and of course the UK. I have been driving for 25 years and both husband and I had road based careers with extremely high annual mileage in UK.
The driving in this small country is awful, in all my years sitting on the UK & Euro motorway networks & huge citie, I never saw anything like the god awful driving I have seen all over NZ.
On this topic Kiwis need to wake up and sort themselves out. NB - I have friends who are Kiwis and agree they are worst offenders.
rant over!!!
