Having an agent will just add a further layer of stress and complexity - because you still have to do all the work as well as project manage and chase up the agent to do things that you could probably do more quickly yourself.

Are you calling the 24hr overseas line based in New Zealand? If so I found them more then helpful explaining everything, I'm not good with paperwork it's more the wife's department lol so found it very helpful.

Thanks all. I signed up with the agent in the end and he's got quite a lot sorted already. Seems good to me so far and has relieved stress levels considerably. Please don't think I'm ignoring your advice though - ours was just a bit more of a complicated one than usual
I wouldn't use an agency if and when we go for residency though, far too expensive. But cost is fine for the temp visa. Gives me one less thing to worry about for now. My darling husband leaves all paperwork to me too ha!
Things starting to fall into place. We very quickly found a tenant for our house, so hoping they can wait a few weeks for our visas to come through so that we are 100% certain.
Bit of a c*ck up at the passport office today though. Hung around for 4 hours only to be told their printer Id broke!
