IELTS Test
Well I've got my IELTS Test in the morning. I am having to go to Manchester as the Academic test is fully booked until March 2016 in Liverpool!! I have been looking at test examples and am surprised at how tricky some of them are! I've got A Level English and would say I have pretty good english skills but still think I may struggle with some of the exercises Here's hoping I get the 6 points needed, so am keeping fingers crossed and hoping for the best!!!!!

Re: IELTS Test
Good luck just do what you're doing and you'll be fine. Remember, they're looking for specific examples of how to use English. Get hold of some test papers if you can and focus on answering in a way that covers what they're looking for.

Hope the test went well...however if it's for nursing registration you need the magic 7777 in each band of IELTS.

Re: IELTS Test
The Exam is difficult - especially for those who have been out of school for some time. Get some practice. Find where your weaknesses are and you can improve your scores.
I used to be an IELTS Examiner and I was surprised at the number of native speakers doing IELTS for immigration purposes.

Why did you need to do the test? If you've only ever studied in English then that's proof isn't it? I never did it

Re: IELTS Test
Our residency had only required proof if we didn't have our full education in English. Just didn't want people doing it and wasting money

Yes nursing is one now. I didnt need to do it back in 2006 but you do regardless of background and education

Re: IELTS Test
Glad we bypassed it. Just seems stupid to have to prove your English when it's you're first language

Re: IELTS Test
My English born and bred husband (and with a degree from a uk university) still had to sit an IELTS test for our Oz visa. It was ridiculous and a waste of money, but rules are rules I guess. He had a chat later with the invigilator who agreed it was daft. He scored well in written and spoken but was a bit weaker on listening - which I could have told them!!! Fingers crossed for you.

Back in 2008 i went to see a JP to get some certificates verified and she was telling me how she was advocating for an English man who was a Professor of English at Oxford University but NZ immigration were questioning his english ability. Couldnt quite believe my ears. He got it sorted eventually.
