Gas Fitter
Hi,
My husband is gas safe registered in the U.K.
Got ACS gas qualifications which is apparently in alignment with a required nvq level 3 to become a gas fitter and recognised at the NZQA.
Can anyone clarify this as know one seems to know before we spend thousands of pounds.
Thank you in advance.

Re: Gas Fitter
If your husband has the equivalent of an NVQ3/ C&G2 advanced trade level , then the qual should meet the NZ level 4 standard.
For NZ Immigration purposes the qual will be exempt from assessment but he will need certified copies of his trade qual certificates.
However for NZ PGDB purposes and to gain NZ PGDB registration it seems a full IQA is required . Cost NZD $746.
If you were uncertain you could try an NZQA PAR at NZD $138 to reassure yourselves it comes in at NZQA level 4.
The NZ PGDB also require a minimum of 4 years full time in the trade before allowing an overseas candidate to take the exam/assessment to become registered.
Does this help please?

Thank you yes very helpful, was confused with the plumbing nvq 2 and gas as that's an ACS so wasn't sure if needed plumbing level 3 first, or can just do gas.
Very hard work x

Re: Gas Fitter
No consolation but it is far better than it was in 2003 when we were coming out , although they do keep altering it around as to who assesses what and where.
What sort of work would your husband think to be doing in New Zealand?
Which visa are you looking at?

Hi again. I should be stacking our winter wood pile .
Do you mean a residency application under the Skilled Migrant policy which is points based and for an automatic pull you would need 160 points? You may struggle to gain enough points for a quality application if so.
Obviously I don't know what you understand of the visa options and the PGDB requirements but am happy to chat with you about this.
BTW My husband is a time served career plumber/gasfitter. Was a craftsman in the UK and is now the same here.

We didn't come in as residents. We came in on a temp work visa and then applied for residency. We are now citizens.
Have you checked your points at all. Gasfitters are not on the shortage list here , however plumbers are in shortage in Canterbury. To stand a chance of being pulled from the skilled migrant pool you need a good 160 points.

If you have a job offer, then you have found a golden egg. Hang onto it with both hands. From the points above , that will be outside of Auckland then.
North Island ?
Not sure what you mean.
