Nope.
This appears to be an orchardist shop in the Auckland area. That would come under farm shops really, like the ones in the UK.

As for the budget thread, good idea, which in turn has given me another idea.

Next time I do a Tesco home delivery shop, I'll fire the same shopping list into an equivalent NZ supermarket website and compare that way.
Yup. Do that. I vaguely remember home deliveries
BUT remember you will not be earning UK pounds but NZ dollars so there isn't a comparison really. Work out the percentage of your earnings you spend on groceries and then apply the same for NZ.

It might be interesting if you were to put up your true average shop here if you can bear to. Then some of us could let you know how that would compare against our actual shop & how much % that takes of our weekly net income.

I've been doing a lot of comparing of prices outside of the general stuff. I'm a big cyclist and with a bit of luck, will be able to commute by bike . Anyway, I'm getting the impression that it might be worth me buying another bike in UK before I leave and shipping it over. A decent bike seems to be 10 to 20% more expensive in NZ.
Yup ! Get the bike. In fact, buy anything you feel you may need or even want before you come here. It makes sense.

Oh ! and don't bring in cheese.

Tried that.

Don't, unless you have nothing else to do with your life.

I was shocked how expensive it is back home. When I first moved to the UK i couldn't believe how expensive the UK was but in general costs, especially when earning dollars, NZ is more expensive.

When I get home one of the first things I do is dig a vege patch and get a new fishing rod.

Asda vine tomatos £1.99 kg.

I dont mind the prices being a little higher, its just the way there is so much inconsistency
and dont get us all started on the whole "on special" thing again

They might cost a bit more than that in winter though.

No water bill here in Taupo.
We dumped Telecom for Vodafone. free local calls, and we use cell phone if dialling afar. Far cheaper and they pay our Sky sport subscription. Saved us a fair bit every month. (All because TELECOM WOULDN'T GIVE ME A WIRELESS MODEM despite being a customer for five years.)
We get a fair bit of meat given to us.
It's cheaper to pop to Turoa than Zermatt.
My haircuts are free.......cheers Haze!
Give up on the idea of fashion if out of the big cities. You'll feel out of place in anything fancier than Top Shop.
Again, outside of the cities, you'll save a bomb on not sitting in traffic queues. We get "total gridlock mahn" in the head if there's half a dozen cars at our one set of lights.

Fruit World on the North Shore is where my sister in law gets her fruit and veg. She says it's ok.
Water is paid for as part of the rates. So, no separate water bill for us either.

But this is how supermarkets work all over the world! All supermarkets here put their prices up on certain products, so that a few weeks later they can put the price down (to normal price) and trick us into thinking that there is an actual discount when there isn't. There is also the common trick of two for one, in some cases being more expensive or the same price as buying a single unit x2. It's all buying psychology.

But until I came to NZ I'd never seen the "put the price up by 3 dollars on last
weeks price then put a special sticker on it to make you think its actually
cheaper" trick

Not really a farm shop, just a chain of largish fruit and veg shops (supermarket sort of style) brighter and cleaner than your average greengrocer but IMVHWO not a great deal of difference to Pak n Save prices for most things; they just make a big deal out of a few blackboard / billboard specials plastered all over the outside of the shop.

For example I saw brocolli for 0.99 cents t'other day but then so did Pak n Save. Peppers there are still $3.99 each (presently imported from USA), white mushrooms (loose) are around the $10 per kilo mark, flat mushrooms $11 to $12 per kilo - no matter what time of the year.

Other things on par with supermarket, such as potatoes anything from $1.99 to $2.49 per kg, Kumara $6.99 kg, Grapes $6.99 to $7.99 (always imported Chilean or USA) and Butternut Squash $2.49 kg, 2 leeks for $3 and such like.

I'd disagree re: fruit n veg. I absolutely never buy it from the supermarkets here, it's almost guaranteed to be way dearer than Fruitworld and other specialist fruit n veg places.

I certainly find general food much more expensive in the NZ supermarkets than UK equivalents that I used to shop in (even adjusted for inflation), Tesco, Morrisons & Asda et al.
Any of them would be ideal instead of the lack of competition here from Coutdown/Foodtown or New World/Pak n Save.

Food is bound to be 15% more expensive here, as there's GST on it, whereas there is no VAT in the UK. But that doesn't explain the big difference in meat, and particularly cheese n bread.
Cheese in particular is big disappointment here, a lack in variety and expensive to boot.
