Re: Blimmin' weather yet again.
It's blowing a gale in Auckland and the rain is persistent. Thankfully not as heavy as down south. The ground is already saturated, so won't take much more before flooding occurs. We are on a hill too. Forecast is for more rain tomorrow and over the weekend. I believe this is the worst winter we've experienced whilst we've been living here. Certainly the windiest.
Keep safe Kiwis.

Re: Blimmin' weather yet again.
Some of the pictures and footage I have seen from top of the south and up North are dreadful and feel sorry for anyone dealing with that. It's been pretty rough here for the past 24 hours, blowing a gale all night and non stop rain also but no flooding that I am aware of so far - every year we seem to reach a new high in terms of wetness and once in 100 year floods.

It's bad SoS and it is everywhere.
Himself is back out there this morning and likely all day until relieved. All agencies are.
Trying not to fret a bit as the roading to anywhere is either in bad shape or out and we have just the one route option really. Now it is two places we have to be which are across town from each other . That is because of overload due to covid , shortages and the like.
Now hanging out for no more rains. It was awful all night. Just glad our home and village is OK. Don't fancy a few nights in the village hall.

Re: Blimmin' weather yet again.
this weather is highlighting the need for NZ to understand the knock on effects of more housing, more roads and transport links. We've seen road collapses that show large empty spaces under them, houses sliding down hills, transport links unable to work because of flooding. This have people displaced and services unable to reach those in need and also those that are isolating due to covid.
Then looking forward a few months, if what we are seeing else where in the World, we are going to have a summer hotter than ever.
I would advise everyone to avoid catching Covid, flu or Monkey pox, all airborne, so mask up whenever you leave the house and make sure you always have a few days supply worth of food in the cupboards and make sure your emergency boxes are up to date and have things for pets, spare underwear, sanitary items, medical items, first aid, non perishable food and lots of water.
Also make sure your whole family are up to date with all vaccine needs, flu, covid, measles etc. We need to protect our health system, our educational system, retail our friends and neighbours. We have seen what we can expect, we can prepare.

Today is dry. MrBEVS is now home - until the next time of course.
