We've been looking at places to live around Palmerston North and found good affordable housing around Fielding.

It looks a pleasant place to live, but is this the reality?

I lived in Palmy but worked in Feilding (note spelling)
It's very small town but is very close to Palmy if you want more. It took me 11mins to get to work from our house, I did it at least 2x per day so excuse the geekiness
It has a few shops, a good market and an interesting arty cinema whether you would want to live there depends on what you want. Could I? Possibly!

Since you're looking from overseas, a good plan would be to note a few options, get to NZ and do some exploring before choosing. Feilding is easily commutable from Palmy so don't discount it

Fielding is fine but avoid houses too near Manfield track, noisy car track!! Unless that is your sort of thing of course. Look at Ashhurst too, smaller community but near P.N and has good school.
