Advice needed for working in NZ
Let me start by saying thank you for taking the time to read this thread.
I work as an electrician in the UK and far now for a couple of years.
I have my City & Guilds levels 2&3 in Electrical installation, but not my NVQ gold card.
I'm now at the stage where I can begin my NVQ in the UK but it could take as long as 18 months to complete.
I really want to go NZ asap, preferably on the 2 year working visa to start, leading to permanent.
My queries would be, what qualifications are recognised, is it the City & Guilds or the NVQ, or both?
Can I do the equivalent of the NVQ in NZ as a student if it's needed for an eventual permanent visa?
I've read some useful stuff on here, but i thought I'd air my thoughts and see if any of you fabulous people could share with me your knowledge.
Thanks in advance.
Tim

Hey,
2 year working visa to start, leading to permanent ?
If you mean a WTR visa that leads to RFW you need an NZ written job offer from an accredited employer to go down that route.
Some City & Guilds of London Institute qualifications are already recognized in NZ and do not require assessment - depends on the year issued.
You need to look here :- https://www.immigration.govt.nz/opsmanual/45799.htm or here https://www.immigration.govt.nz/opsmanual/66912.htm
NVQ qualifications do need assessment.
If you want to work as an electrician here you will need to be professionally registered so you'll need to apply through the EWRB of NZ. You'll need to provide qualifications and work experience details and they'll assess for a fee and let you know what you need to do in order to become registered and then apply for a license.
To work as an unsupervised electrician in NZ you MUST have a practicing license. You can work without a license or on a limited license but you will have to be supervised and all your work checked and of course you'll be classed as a trainee/apprentice and only be offered a salary to suit.
Salary wise as a fully licensed electrician your looking at $28-$35 per hour. To earn more you'd maybe have to move to Auckland where you'd probably be paid more (but cost of living is high) or go it alone when you are licensed and work for yourself or start your own business.

The possibility of you gaining a permanent visa all depends on your employment offer in NZ and having the necessary qualifications.
