Default Cost of Living in Amsterdam as per 2008 - 2009

Hi,

I would like to know, what is the COST of living for a single person as per current Inflation and other economy related factors.

Place : Amsterdam. In/Around 15- 20 Kms
Year 2008 - 2009.

Can you please advise as per below expenses for a single person:

1) Average weekly grocery bill (including food, basic laundry and toiletry items)
2) Accommodation - Bond and first month’s rent. Electricity and water also ?
3) Mobile phone and Internet access
4) Local Transportation/ Car ?

Please add other factors as well, if I miss any.

Hi,

I live not far from where you would be living, and could answer your questions as follows :

1) My average grocery bill is about € 60 to € 80 per week
2) Accommodation in this area is a problem, the fastest way to find something is to rent either from a private person, or commercial renting company. I rent from the last mentioned, pay €850 all in (including gas/water/electric). Housing taxes can be stiff, I pay €335 per year.
3) Mobile phones? Depends on what you want, prepaid or a one/two/three year contract. For the fastest cable internet package I pay €63 per month.
4) Local transport in this area is good but if you calculate all costs per year, depending on where you need to go, it's not really much cheaper then a private car.

Thanks Dutchie.

I would like to know more about the Apartment. Can I get more cheaper one.

My requirement is for One person. So 1 Bedroom is enough.

Is it possible to get apartment around 500-600 Euro including all?

Hi Akkigupta,

I live in a 90 square meters, one bedroom apartment for all in €850. Your max of €500 to €600 is, if you ask me, unrealistic low. I doubt that in this area you will find anything for that price. You could try registering with one of the big housing corporations here, but I warn you, a waiting list of several years is fairly normal. Also most of the housing corporations rent out against bare rent levels, meaning you have to apply for gas/water/electric yourself.

Hi Dutchie,

Thanks a lot for the information.

One more doubt, where i can find the information regarding Renting the houses?

Is there any PG (Paying Guest) kind of concept there, where I need only Room and Bathroom in the entire house or any place where i can share the house?
