Riiiight!
Good old daily express. I doubt that anyone more than a bus stop from the epicentre noticed a thing.

I don't know, 4.1 is a pretty decent rattle even if its not all that dramatic. I've been woken by shallow 3.8's before and most 4s are fairly obvious within 5-10kms of their epicentre and have definitely shaken my house down here. It all depends how shallow it is really.

While we were living in a small village in Staffordshire we experienced both an earthquake, which made our roof tiles clatter together and, even more exciting, a small twister that left a path of damage in its wake, including sucking up a garden gnome and dropping him in a nearby field. In fact, the casualty figure for garden ornaments that day was distressingly high.

Lovely to see you Editha. Do hope all is well in your world.
We have experienced a lightening bolt strike here in NZ. To be truthful, not us exactly. It hit next door. Took out all their electrics and some of ours. Blew our TV up .
It was during a storm and Mr BEVS was outside in the rain making for the car port where the fuse box is located , in order to turn off all the power.
I was on the other side of the house in the pouring rain rounding up our two ducks to go into their pen.
Then it struck. To say that hair stands on end is a truth. The air sizzled. It was a most peculiar feeling .

What these incidents have taught me is how slow I am on the uptake:
When the twister went past our front door, my first thought was 'a train has gone by', then several seconds later 'but we are several miles from a railway line'.
When the earthquake rattled our roof tiles I got out of bed, opened a window and looked for the naughty person throwing ball bearings at our roof.
In Croatia, a number of years ago, I actually slept through an earthquake, to the amazement of our landlady.
