Spouse encountered issues returning to UK from Spain
My spouse has a UK visa and has been in the UK for about 28 months now.
We have been on 2 holidays since then and had no issues returning. The 2nd she returned on her own with my son.
She has just been on a 3rd holiday to Spain. No issues leaving.
When I was waiting to pick her up from East Midlands I was getting concerned as everyone else had come through. 30 minutes went by and still nothing.
Normally she's the first through as the non-eu line is normally empty.
Well when she finally arrived she had issues with 2 things.
1) On this occassion she was asked to prove that her son belonged to her and she was the legal mother!! (As she's not British her last name doesn't change which is normal!).
2) They were having difficulties with matching her fingerprints with the database records from her biometric records taken in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
Why don't they check the parents children when they leave the country?? Surely more important than entering.
They eventually let her through as our son looked comfortable with her!
Not a nice experience for her.
So just an FYI do take some documentation for your children (birth certificates maybe and a letter of consent from the other parent) if you're travelling alone with them and they have different surnames.

Re: Spouse encountered issues returning to UK from Spain
This is not a new issue. I am surprised that they haven't picked it up in Spain before now. A french friend of mine was not allowed to fly with her baby and toddler until her husband had come back to the airport to say it was ok.
Not a nice welcome back to the UK but I am glad that they are keeping an eye on these things.

Certainly not new...happened to a friend of mine 25 years ago. It is something we often remind our members of when they are traveling without the other parent.
