I would be really cautious about that.
99+% of solicitors are honest, but not all of them are.
Assuming this is your life savings, I presume it is close to your entire wealth, then caution is needed.
At least make sure the solicitors is a national practice, not a man and a dog sole practitioner.
The risk may be small, but the consequences of a loss could be catastrophic.
The risk is less if a lender (building society?) is lending even a small part of the money for the purchase.
