Re: Nice places to live in the U.K.?
so you keep saying.
Looking at indeed.co.uk, there seem to be plenty of sonographer jobs all over the country so I think she will have a choice of where to go. They also seem to be "tier 2" so from the very little I know, if the OP is not British they will still consider her application and be able to get a visa.
Not a bad job option actually.

I'd be interested in how the OP compiled her list.
My choice, for what it is worth since I'm half a century older than the OP, would be Brighton, Bristol, Oxford, Derby, Southampton, in order of preference. But Southampton is only last because I don't know the town at all.

She hasn't written she thinks her life would be better geoff52 and even so she doesn't need to give her reasons to any of us . She just has the desire to move countries. Many of us do, for better or worse.
For young people in the Antipodes , it is very common to look to a few years and more in the NH.
All the best ElleB. You are only young once.

Bournemouth has shaken off its "retirement home" image and has become a mecca for young people - or so I am told!

I think Bournemouth is still expensive though, don't football managers live there?

FWIW I wouldn't consider Southampton to be "nice".
In terms of a vibrant city with culture, I would consider Liverpool to be "nice", and definitely consider it ahead of Derby and Southampton.

Southampton suffered badly in WWII and was largely flattened, so it's not as scenic as it once was. In terms of living there I think it's fine but not especially prosperous, although it's close to many places or easy to get to many places from there.

Yorkshire is a bit of a wide brush!
Anyway my two penn'oth would be that it must slightly depend on where they are coming from. If you're coming from small town Aus then maybe country town/city would be preferable, if you're coming from Sydney CBD then Oxford (for example) may seem too small town? No idea. All Uni towns have a thriving nightlife for the under 30s. Is being close to water preferable to being in Derby etc etc etc.
Agree with everyone though, get a job offer and look at the town. Don't set your heart on Bristol and then only find work in Accrington. That would just be depressing.

Depends on what activities you like doing. I you like sailing Southampton or Brighton. Are you looking at living in the cities or in the surrounding area? I like Hampshire as a county. Do you want easy access to airports or channel rail?
I would probably make a check list of your desire and then choose a place that fits.
My experience of Sheffield is a smell near the M1, bendy buses and a guy being taken down outside a supermarket and his jacket being full of bacon. He has tried stealing about 50 packets of bacon.
Oxford is close to the Cotswolds which is nice and Abingdon Flying club if that appeals to you. It also is the home of the shark house.

Re: Nice places to live in the U.K.?
Hi,
I'm currently 18 but I was born and raised in Leeds until I was 8, and then I moved to Australia. I really would like to move back after I finish university but I know that I don't want to move back to Leeds. I was thinking of Southampton, Oxford, Brighton, Derby or Bristol. Can anyone tell me which place is nicest and would be best for a young person?
