With no qualifications, in the current climate, you'll be lucky to pick up a part time job and at best you'd be looking at about $19K pro-rata -and before taxes (as a 19 year old you probably hadn't had much experience of the system then, factor in income tax at 26%, NI at 11% and then Council taxes if you can get your own place. Unemployment benefits will be a while before you're eligible)!!!
I'm not going to say that the US is an easy place for low earners but as someone who's been out of the European system for a while you may find yourself royally screwed if you return without some very thorough research!!!

You do get croupiers in England don't you? I thought it was quite well-paid.

Yup. Casinos are alive and kicking in the Mother land. It can be well paid, depending on ability, training & experience

We certainly do and II should imagine that they are!
However the county of Devon is probably smaller than the average county in the Southern US and is probably on par with bible-belt states where frequency of casinos are concerned. Where the UK does have casinos they are miniscule when compared with a stereotypical Vegas casino.

I don't want to pee on anyone's box of fireworks, but the South West of England is not the ideal place to look for any kind of work in the current climate (that's not to say the OP wouldn't fall into a job here).
Research it well, speak to family members, have them recce potential job opportunities/job sites. Homesickness is not something that has ever bothered me (and whilst I've only been out of the UK for no longer than a 7 month stretch I have lived with minimal contact with my (loving) family for many years now.) but unless the OP returns to the UK with substantial backing from his family and/or funds he may discover just how tough the system is on folks who haven't paid into it for the last 9 years (or aren't Europeans/refugees!!!)
The UK is no more the land of 'milk and honey' than the US is.

OK, I wasn't sure what the was about. He would need to move to a metropolitan area I would think.

Presumably his marriage has already broken down as it would seem unusual to leave a comfortable existence because of missing one's parents.

Maybe, not sure, but it is the population that is more relevant than the area. That said, Devon and Cornwall are probably as close as the UK gets to a domestic Florida (yeah, I know that's a stretch, and not very close at all. ), in that is has lots of tourists.
and is probably on par with bible-belt states where frequency of casinos are concerned. .....
You might be surprised. A quick search with Google found casinos in both Plymouth and Torquay, as well as a business offing mobile casinos for parties and events with "professional croupiers".

With the possible exception of nursing auxiliary and home help care workers. ..... Devon is reported to have the highest proportion of pensioners of any county in the UK.

Quite possibly! We are also a county that is totally reliant upon the tourist industry. Much of our unskilled work is seasonal and even places such as supermarkets have (nationally) taken to hiring workers on part-time contracts. It is very difficult to get full time work in unskilled jobs - not impossible though.
On the plus side the UK government is expanding it's casino franchises nationally so I would assume that a croupier with Vegas experience and a grasp of the lingo would fair better in job selection than a local with no experience. Plymouth is also the best place to look for casino jobs within the county.

I'm going to move this to MBTUK so you can get some input from others who have done something similar to see if you can get some more advice.

Not at all surprised. The small Torquay casino is about 4 miles from my UK residence and I'd forgotten that my cousin in Somerset operates a 'mobile casino' with professional croupiers !!!
I didn't say there were 'no casinos' or that there are no vacant jobs, just that opportunities may be few and far between because it is a very small market.

I'm 28 now and not sure if I want to spend the rest of my life here anymore, does anybody have any advice for me or has anyone else felt this way also...
Given the choice for me I should have stayed put in the US. You have a better opportunity there believe me. What you could expect in the UK by way of accommodation would be a crappy flat as opposed to the house you have over there, and here would be minimum wage and most only want part time workers. People often say to me why on earth did you come back here for. Some people that give a negative view on the US have never lived and worked there. This is not the country for opportunity. Before making any firm plans do more research on the cost of living here.

Does your wife work, if so what? Think carefully my friend.

My wife is a manicurist and makes good money, together we make about $100k a year! I'm able to save about $1000 a month here after paying my bills...
