Re: New Malden, Surrey
Parking fees can be outrageous, particularly town centre, multi-storey parking in cities. A four hour stop in a central Manchester car park last summer cost us 12 quid and a similar amount was very reluctantly parted with in Cardiff city centre the year before.
Supermarket car parks are free (for an hour or two) and big shopping centres like Trafford Centre, Gemini Retail Park (Warrington) are also free, which is why whenever possible, we avoid town centres unless its an absolute imperative.
Whilst refurbishing the house last summer I discovered that everything can be done on the internet or the phone. We bought all furniture, electrical appliances, sorted out estimates for new kitchen etc. all over the phone/internet.
Not only did we save money on parking fees - we saved a bundle on discounts you can only get via the internet. Well pleased!

If I recall correctly, in NM there is a carpark next to the swimming pool which is £1 per hour, but the multistory next to it is much cheaper. Not too bad. The Borough of Kingston is pretty well set up for cycle lanes in my opinion. Worth considering.

Well I spent the best part of a day in NM yesterday, not bad, not great, but OK and only half an hour on the train from London Waterloo.
Interview went well at least I thought so for about an hour afterwards then all the doubts crept in later, why didn't I say this? Why did I say that? You know how it goes.
I would say there are at least 12 Korean businesses in NM I saw, I believe the Korean newspaper is published there too.
So will see how it goes...................

The parking? To tell you the truth I am a bit concerned about the parking thing. When my 2nd cousin drove me over half England and Wales, everywhere we went we had to pay for parking. It's against my religion. I HATE paying for parking. It's one of the things I really relish about being out of Vancouver now.

They do have parking fees in some places but not as much as here I would say. I think location has a lot to do with it too...........in Wythenshawe the multi storey car park next to Asda is free, as is the Asda in Runcorn, here I have Sainsbury's and there is a fee but if you do your supermarket shop there you can claim back the first 2 hours from your parking ticket.

One thing i found a lot cheaper here compared to Oz is hospital parking, but thankfully we don't have to utilise that facility much. (my recent operation was private so parking was free). We also have lots of 'free on Sunday' parking around here, but generally yes, more expensive than Oz.
Good luck with the job Beedubya, finger crossed

You'd get along well with my husband. His happiest days are the ones where he finds a free street parking spot in Manhattan. I'm all for just pulling into the nearest parking lot and handing over $40 just so we can get on with what we came for, but he'll patiently circle block after block until we come across someone leaving. It can take a while but it makes him happy.

Yes I kept watching that moon!!!
More relieved than excited as I REALLY don't like my present job, nothing worse than the feeling of dread as I walk through that office door every day.

Yes. I have been taking in what you have been saying and you're well out of there. Even if I was young and wanted a career there's a definite problem if you have to take work home to do until 9:30pm every night. To heck with that! No more office politics for me. I've had my share of that.
