Default Moving back to uk fro Tenerife

Hi my son and his wife and 2 children are looking to move back to uk from Tenerife, They both have jobs and both pay NI in spain.
They have been on the island 8 and 10 yrs respectively, Whilst my son has also got a UK NI number his wife doesn't as she was only 13 when her family moved to tenerife.
They all hold British Passports what do they need to be able to move back.

All they need are four plane tickets and their passports. Once back in the UK then your daughter should check to see whether she already has a NINO - if her parents ever claimed child benefit for her then she should already be on the system. If not then she'll need to apply for one.

Other than that, it's the usual things you do if you moved house in the UK, e.g. update the electoral roll, your driving licence, register with a GP, etc..

The bigger concern would be employment and accommodation. There are no welfare benefits for the first three months so the family would likely need funds and/or help from friends and family to establish themselves.

Would your son's family be interested to get Spanish citizenship before returning to the UK? Having another EU citizenship post Brexit would not do any harm!

It might be worth your daughter-in-law giving HMRC a call now and seeing if she can retrieve her NINO.

They should not bank on council housing. While it is available with ease in some parts of the U.K. such as the Highlands and Islands of Scotland, in most parts the waiting lists are huge. Many local authorities won't even add you to the list until you have lived in the area for a number of years.
