Default Moving back with daughter who has braces

Hi everyone, just wondering if anyone has had similiar issue. Planning to move back to cambs area August. My daughter has braces and she will be a yr into her treatment with about 4 mths to go.
I'm thinking we won't be able to finish the treatment on the nhs. They have already cost a small fortune so I'm really hoping to pay as little as possible for the last bit!!

Can't you stay in Australia for an extra 4 months? You may have difficulty finding an orthodontist in the UK. See this NHS page:Orthodontics - NHS Choices

Plenty of non NHS dentists in the UK who would be able to help, finding and registering with an NHS dentist is like finding hens teeth, even a NHS dentist will charge.

She needs an orthodontist. Even with private treatment there can be delays waiting to see specialists. I've just had an assessment for implants for which I had to wait over three months. Cambridge might be better than the West Country.

The timing is for the start of the school year, hence August. Can't wait till she gets them off. Hopefully I will be able contact an orthodontist prior to returning. I was just wondering if anyone had any experiences.

I assume you've googled "Orthodontists, Cambridgeshire UK" ? I got 91,500 hits.
Have a look , choose a couple, suited to the area you're thinking of moving to, and either call or email them for info. At least then you'll have some idea of cost/availability.Should not think many BE'rs will have recent experience of Cambridgeshire orthodontists.

I keep hearing this, yet we have had no issues anywhere we have lived. We moved to Windsor from Oz in March and there were 4 NHS dentists in town all happy to register us.

I don't know anyone who has actually had an issue outside London.

Hi, Our youngest son came from WA with just finishing wearing a "bridge" (which did not work at all to fix the problem but cost a mortgage anyway lol) and needing braces instead, we like you had to leave Aus in time for College for our youngest. I took him to a local dentist with all his dental notes and treatment to present from WA , we were referred to the NHS local dental treatment centre for assessment for braces on the NHS and were told it would be approved for NHS treatment (a very nice surprise) but we would have to wait a while, in the mean time I took him back to the local dentist and they quoted us a "private" costing for braces and treatment and it was soooooooo much cheaper than our orthodontist in WA so we paid to have them "done" private, the cost also included whitening, he now has teeth nice enough for a McLean's toothpaste advert lol. Our dentist was completely fine with all our notes I brought back from WA so your daughter should be fine. Good luck with the move

Hi,
I have literally just been sorting this out. My son is 4 months into his treatment here in Oz and we are moving back to Norwich in a couple of weeks. I found an orthodontist that will take him on under the NHS to finish the rest of his treatment. The practice manager was lovely and went out of her way to try and find out if the NHS would fund him and they have agreed to. Worth contacting several practices and see what they say.

prospect is an unknown quantity at this point

Geez, Ginger1002 ... I'm just reading this with envy. We arrived here in Midlands in Jan with a daughter who is 9 and has 3 brackets/braces on a space saver to see if one of her adult teeth will come down. Got rejected for NHS on first try - going to attempt a 2nd go tomorrow. Saw a private orthodontist who wanted to charge me 166 pounds per visit (6 weekly) or per repair (not infrequent with wire over an empty space). This is way more expensive than Oz for just 3 braces. Ironically I found the 3500 pounds she quoted for full braces (needed in a 3-4 years) much cheaper than Oz. So no one seems to want to see us and the privates are trying to make lots of money off us. I know there are some issues with her being under 10 but we have clear medical need ....

Very much a "crap-shoot". In the West of Scotland I and dependants have had several successful courses of treatment for complex dental issues including referral to Glasgow Dental Hospital. It think it is a "postcode lottery"
