Default Mobile wi-fi for one month

Any suggestions where I can get mobile wi-fi on my unlocked smartphone for a month. I don't like contracts. Need it for 'GPS by phone' (driving) and other surfing activities.

Last year I spent 6 months in England and Europe without a mobile data plan on my smart phone. GPS does not use cellular data or wifi and when traveling by car or when hiking I had my phone in airplane mode to save the battery. Google maps and other software such as OS maps or Gaia for hiking allow you to download maps while you are in wifi and then use with no wifi or data plan.

Thanks - so the 'voice help' will speak to me, or the moving map will indicate the route in real time, whilst I am driving?

All of the major mobile phone companies will do pay-as-you-go SIMs that you can buy and use for a short while, and you will have a choice as to how many minutes/data/texts you want. You can buy in advance or just walk into a shop and buy one with cash, no contract. Some also do "data only" deals for tablets, which may be better if you don't want to text or make calls.

Absolutely. What you don't get are the live updates on traffic conditions and associated re-routing options while you are driving. In other words just like an old fashioned car Sat-Nav.

Before we set off on our driving holiday in Belgium last summer I downloaded Google Maps for the areas around Zeebrugge, Ypres, Liege and Brussels. During our time there I would plot a route in the hotel or house or on route in cafes we were in that had wifi. It works really well.

+1. I pay £10 a month for a SIM only deal with 4GB data, unlimited texts and 600 mins, and it's on a rolling 1 month contract, so I can cancel at any time. You could just sign up to something like that and pay a tenner, sorted!

Couple years ago I managed to get an EE sim in store for £15 with 2 GB data, unlimited calls and text which was more than adequate for my waze use. The other option for driving is to use here maps that does not require a data connection.

You could also look here
http://www.moneysupermarket.com/mobi...only/sim-card/

But a lot require a SIM to be sent by mail to a UK address.

ID does 5 GB of data for £10, use the link that I posted earlier to find a deal that suits you.

So sorry, I've only just seen this! It's with ID. It's an old deal but they've still got some similar ones, as mentioned above - https://www.idmobile.co.uk/shop/plan...FUEcGwodO_ILww

And don't forget to go via TopCashback or Quidco, then you get the equivalent of a couple of months free in cash too.

HTH.
