Re: Made the decision to move back but need some tips
Canada is not a listed country and its very tough to take a pet from Canada to UK.
I have read that only Air Canada is the only Canadian approved airline for transporting pets and that they only allow them in cargo. Several pets have frozen to death in cargo so beware, as cargo is not heated.

There are strict regulations governing transport of animals.
see IATA pets page- section 'what is your pet's size and weight?' click to expand.

What is your pet's size and weight?
'Only small dogs and cats can go in the cabin. Some airlines may not even allow them in, and will transport them as special baggage in a heated and ventilated hold. Do not worry, cats and dogs actually travel better this way because it is quieter and they will rest in a darkened environment'.
I note the poster Editha successfully transported a cat from Canada- see her posts. In my previous work in the relocation industry, many clients transported their pets from canada and north america with no problems at all into the UK.

If you can fly to Gatwick rather than Heathrow, the animal reception centre there has a better reputation for processing the animals quickly. We flew to Gatwick three years ago, with 2 cats. Picking them up was very straightforward, though the paperwork before the journey was a nightmare.

Your last senstance is total rubbish.
Not only is cargo heated, but they set it according to what animals are flying - most flights actually have some animals with Heathrow ARC taking over a million arrivals per year.
We were even asked by the captain what temp we would like for ours - we requested 24.

My goodness, now I'm scared to bring my pup home!

I want to reassure anybody reading this thread that your animals will not come to any harm. Our two were perfectly fine, even though one of them was over 20 years old, and the other has a nervous disposition.
