Folks you meet at the supermarket, bank, in the high street - 'hello where are you from'? - me, just outside Toronto Canada. The coversation turns into a whinging about doom & gloom, Brexit, NHS gone to the dogs & you know 'if I was younger I'd emigrate'...my response ' so why didn't you do it 40, 30, 20 years ago'? Person responds back with a change of topic to 'we're off next week to Spain where we have a holiday home or something similar, or my relative lives in OZ, NZ, USA, Canada etc
The one that always gets me is the - 'my son/daughter who I miss dearly lives in Vancouver Canada 'here I'll give you their address, maybe you can pop in & say hello from me.
I live just outside Toronto, bloody stupid people don't you know that they live 3000 miles from me, don't they know their geography.
Or similar, with a ['it might be closer '] my child lives in Ontario' can you go see them, finding out they live 600 miles from where I live
Same experience I'm guessing for folks that have relatives in the US, Australia, SA

I have no idea if that's a joke or not. If it is, it's a really odd one. If it's not then it's all kinds of wrong.

Back in the early 80's on a flight from Wellington NZ to Sydney OZ my baggage contained Tylenol & wouldn't you know it, the dogs in the back conveyor sniffed them. My baggage was held and when I finally got the suitcase one day later the lock had been cut off. Please sign here, the Tylenol was gone.

I watch "Border Patrol Australia' on TV.....so I'm an expert...
My comment was 'tongue in cheek satire' but Australia DOES have strict rules... especially regarding agriculture and prescription medicine.
It wasn't that long ago, when I'd fly into Australia as crew, and we'd get sprayed before exiting the aircraft. The joke we told was.....it prevents you passengers from bites by the Australian flies...

You've made me think....given the proclivity for litigation these days.
I'm now 80 years old and have this occasional cough. Can I sue the Australian gov't for lung damage due to them fumigating me whenever I landed in OZ...and how much should I claim?....

Back in the 60's, even early 70's the flight attendants walked through the aircraft after it landed spraying everything & everyone. Cough cough cough, especially when added to all the second hand cigarette smoke on board... those were the days

I read recently in the States some Flight Attendants, that have developed lung cancer, ARE suing the airlines for permitting smoking in their workplace.

You can bring a 3 months supply of all your prescription medications into Australia. All you need is a copy of the prescription or letter from your doctor.
The only prescription drug I can think of that you can't just turn up with is steroids, and even they can be brought in with a permit from the Therapeutic Goods Administration.
Contrast that with Singapore, I needed to get a permit from the Singapore health authorities to bring in 4 prescription Panadene Forte tablets because they contain codeine.
