Importing cat from Canada.

We are looking at bringing our cat back with us when we travel in November. We know what the requirements are for the cat clearing customs with know quarantine and have no problem with that.

At the moment air canada seems the only option to take the pet, they charge $600 + £376 for a handler at heathrow + a return flight as its cheaper than flying single to UK (double what west jet and air transat charge) This is the stupid thing we don't want to have to pay for a expensive flight aswell as all the other charges.

My question is whats the cheapest way to do this? and can anybody share there experiences and how much it cost?

May be try one of the pet shipping companies? They offer a door to door service.
Other option would be to travel via continental Europe. This would give more airline options. See what comes up there.
Different airlines have different rules and prices.

Can't you take a cat as carry on anymore?

We did it the other way with Icelandair. I think it was 150 quid, including the layover in Keflavik.

We imported 2 cats 3 years ago from Edmonton. At that time, Air Transat (aka Canadian Affair) was the cheapest carrier. Also, they fly to Gatwick, which is preferable, since animals are processed more quickly at Gatwick than Heathrow.

We have enough cats. No need to import any.
