Default Getting a UK Bank account tip

We are heading home to England from Canada after ten years in eight weeks. Bank account and credit card all set up thanks to opening an HSBC Premier account here. Hopefully will be same with mortgage as it looks like HSBC actually offer a fairly competitve rate in UK!

I also have a HSBC Premier here and in Belfast. I haven't asked them if there is a charge to transfer from this end. While in Belfast last year, they did charge me a small sum to transfer a few thousand from USA to UK. Said it was for converting $$$$ to ££££

We did the same and got a mortgage with HSBC after only 9 months back in the UK. I was really surprised as we're also self-employed, which I had heard could be a real problem. But it was all very easy. Good luck!

This sounds useful.
Does it cost to have such an account? HSBC Premiere...
I might have to think about splitting off some of my WF accounts.

I'm currently in Canada and have an HSBC premier account here which we opened by transferring $100K of tax free retirement savings into HSBC managed mutual funds.

On the basis of that account I now also have checking and savings accounts (and associated plastic) in the UK and in France.
