Getting a mortgage on return

Getting a mortgage on return
Hi
We are returning to the UK after 18 years away and while we have always had a UK bank account, we have not maintained a UK address.
So far we have not found anyone willing to offer us a mortgage as (1) we have no uk credit record (2) I will continue to be paid overseas (in EUR) but will convert that to sterling monthly. Other than that I think we are very low risk as we're only seeking a 60% mortgage, have no debts etc.
Any thoughts and suggestions?

Age may also be against you as some lenders are still reluctant to give a mortgage that extends beyond retirement age. Until very recently it was extremely difficult to find a lender who would give a mortgage that extends beyond retirement age.

I agree a mortgage broker is probably your only resource. The major banks will only be helpful if you have a personal affinity relationship with them, otherwise you are dealing with the 'computer says no' syndrome.

(2) is a major issue, I don't think any high street bank will accept that these days.
So, yes, you will need to go via broker.
(or can you renegotiate with your employer to be paid in UKP, so as to remove the currency risk?)
