Default Forty foot container USA to UK self load and pack

Shipping costs crop up often we just paid $2240 for a forty foot container from the USA to the UK. This includes trucking, port charges and documentation.

This does not include UK customs clearance or trucking which we will pay in pounds due to the strength of the pound.

We crate, load and unload ourselves.

If you build your own crates you can use plywood, particle board or any "manufactured" wood. Any other wood has to be heat treated to comply with the ISPM 15 standard and is stamped. It costs around $3 for a treated 2x4x8

We are around 120 miles from Norfolk VA which is a significant factor on the trucking cost.

If you do self load in the summer be sure it is early in the morning as containers get very hot very quick.

That is a great price; even better than we got in 2011 for our slightly longer distance from Norfolk. Our price did include the land transport, terminal charges etc. on the UK side.

Having done the trans-Atlantic move 3 times now, I'm a big fan of containers and DIY rather than the exorbitant charges from a moving company.

Good luck with the move....I do NOT miss the heat and humidity of a Virginia summer!
