Default NHS question

Hi, my daughters boyfriend has just received his youth mobility visa. When they arrive in the UK how covered is he by the NHS? Should he be buying insurance for the two years his visa lasts or is he fully covered if needed?
Many thanks

If your daughter's boyfriend got his Tier 5 visa, he should have paid the health surcharge. This means that he will be able to use the NHS during the validity of his Tier 5 visa.

Yes he got the visa for 2 years and will pay the surcharge. We booked their flights last night and the travel agent advised him to take out travel insurance that lasts at least a year. I didnt think it was necessary so was just asking for clarification.
