Assuming she is a British citizen and therefore has a right to return to the UK, she has no rights to social housing unless she is in the UK. She might have to wait a number of months after returning to the UK to have any rights to housing or housing assistance. So does she have the budget to rent privately? If not, he alternative would be to live with a family member, however she would then have "a home" and not be a priority for housing or housing assistance.
If she does have the budget to rent privately she will have the usual issues widely discussed on other BE threads, of having to stump up extra months of deposit because of her lack of UK credit history.

Hi
I am a new member and I am very impressed with the support I have received.
She is a British citizen and holds a Jamaican and UK passport. She does have the budget to rent privately for a limited time. My guess is after a period of time she will need some assistance with social housing (although she does not look it, she will be 80 years of age in two years time). I will start researching rental properties and look at the over 50s wiki links page.
Thanks

Best of luck.
Whereabouts will she want to settle? If you post that information, there might be someone on the forum with advice on rentals in that area.
Given her age, I suggest you also ring the Age UK advice line for any information you need about social care, housing etc.

Hi Thanks for your reply
She will settle in a Dudley in the West Midlands where she has family and friends.
I will of course contact the Midlands branch of Age Uk but in the meantime if anyone has
any advice on rentals in the area of Dudley West Midlands it would be much appreciated.

Hello,
Have you considered sheltered accommodation?
Its for senior citizens, usually aged 60 or over. There is a variety of accommodation (studios, one bed flats, bungalows etc) depending on each individual scheme.
The schemes can vary from those that have a visiting warden to sort out problems.... and they choose to live there for the companionship and community rather than any day to day care needs.
Others live in resident warden setting which offers a watchful eye on those who may need a little bit of support.......and then you get schemes which offer lots of practical support.
There can be a significantly shorter wait time for these schemes compared to say council housing. The following may be of interest.
