Default Driving license for US spouse

We've just moved to the UK and getting round to my US husband applying for his provisional driving license from DVLA. Anyone have experience with this? He has to send in his BRP card, which is valid for another two years after which we will apply for ILR.

So assuming he passed his driving test, will he just get a licence that expires after two years? Will he have to take the test again at that point?

Thanks!

Your husband's immigration status isn't linked to his eligibility to drive. If he passes his test then his licence will be valid until the day before he turns 70 and his photocard will need updating every ten years, the same as everyone else.
