I did the OU too, boy that was hard work but rewarding Holly but a good option :-) and some degrees offer part time if you are working - that may be easier once here.

To be honest, she followed her heart and now wants to cut all ties and come home, feeling safe with family is a big part of it, but has learnt some valuable life's lessons that she would never have got here , if Uni isn't an option straight away it's always there in the future and an investment I'd take in her rather than student finance.

NI paying previous years - anyone happen to know how many back years you can contribute and how much for a year ?
Back in the day I paid Class 3 voluntary NI for many many years starting in the 1980s. And I'm very glad I did. The cheaper Class 2 option wasn't widely known about (it certainly wasn't by me and I'm not sure whether I would have qualified). That was all long before the internet was commercialised. So your daughter needs to research that (Class 3 or Class 2). I suspect (don't really know) that it might make a difference whether she pays arrears now or after returning.
