Default Cost of moving back from NZ to UK

Hi
Can anyone who has recently moved back give me a ball park figure of the cost of moving back - shipping stuff, and also any pets you took? We just have a small 3 bed house with an average amount of furniture, not planning on taking all of it back, but will take beds, sofas etc.
Trying to get an idea so I can formulate our escape plan.
Thanks in advance.

Others here have far greater knowledge of this, because they have family homes etc.
I have a weeny place and cut my taking back stuff to the absolute bone-taking only a couple-ish of 'comfort' items. (Chair/bed/books).

The general family removal appears to be around 30-40 cubic metres-and quotes are in the 5-10,000........ballpark!

The consensus appears to be that it is better to spend that money on buying new/auction at the other end, just taking the little things but not furniture.

I also noticed a post where someone has said that garden furniture in the UK is very expensive...so if you are a keen gardener......

Bahhhhh!! 5-10k!!!!
I am sure I can get ours down to 20 cubic metres, or even feet!! It's a very small house.
Thanks Emperor.

Hi

We have decided to get rid or sell all of our furniture and just take a few boxes of stuff (not sure how many boxes yet mind!) I'm sure it will be cheaper and better quality to buy again when we get back.

Cost for 2 dogs is approx. $6000 !

That's as far as I've got so far.

Hi,
Our dog was 3600, our shared container was under 5000 dollars. Flights, loads as we went to LA and NY on the way.
Happy to help with other costs.

Thanks Spacecake - seems the cheapest so far. Which company did you use?

• Collection from location in Christchurch including Airport
• Pre flight Veterinary examination and worm treatment (required)
• MAF Export examination and documentation
• NZ Customs export documentation, Preparation of all documentation and arrival procedures in Heathrow. (See below)
• Two Airline Approved Travel Crate built to specific measurements
• Complimentary overnight boarding pre travel

Hi this is the quote I was sent. Just typical that the sausage dog will need a crate tailor made and the huntaway will be able to have a recycled one! There is also a landing fee of approx. GBP 455.

I'm still in the process of getting rid of stuff in order to get a quote for that.

Hope this helps.

Hi,
Sorry for the delayed response I am currently sunning myself in France, something I realised I would not do again if I stayed in nz!

We used allied pick fords. They were excellent, packed everything up and it was delivered without a mark on anything.

Hope that helps

Hi,

Our container was as quick as a normal container I think 6-8weeks in total.

I am happy to send you a copy of our inventory when I get home if that helps but basically it all fitted tightly packed in a small van/lorry.

From the lounge/diner, large tv, 2lamps, DVD player, large table and six chairs, sideboard.
Couple of computer monitors. Lots of toys, six drawer unit and blanket box from one bedroom, lots of cooking gadgets, bread maker etc. our queen size bed, loads of clothes, sleeping bags, airing cupboard full of stuff. We also had probably 20 of the 60 & 90ltr plastic crates from the warehouse filled with books, DVDs etc.

Hope that gives you an idea

Carole

Hi

Lucky you being in France! Really looking forward to being able to "pop" away for trips.
