Default Any laws regarding which passport to use?

I hold two passports having been born in the UK and being a naturalized U.S. citizen.
I use my UK passport when exiting the US and entering the UK but use my US passport on the return journey.
Are there any problems or legalities surrounding the use of both passports?
Thanks.

Oft discussed, no issues, no legalities other than entering the US using your US passport.

If you're just visiting (less than six months) there is really no reason not to just use your US passport the whole way, there and back, which is what I have done the last couple of times.

If you like you can enter the UK using your British passport.

If you have both then use both. No point spending 30 minutes in the non-EU at T5 when you can whizz through the eGates in a few seconds.

You are required by US law to exit and enter the US using your US PP. If visiting the UK you can use either...but if you are returning to live you should use your UK PP...or stay more than 6 months.

I had a bet with my husband yesterday that I'd clear immigration in the Manchester airport non-EU line before he did using e-gate. I lost, but not by much! I might have lost by more if I hadn't been first in the queue...

Husband got totally confused leaving Australia and handed over his British passport at check-in. His poor face when he was told he wasn't going anywhere

I’ve been waiting forever in the EU line at Manchester...while peeps in the non EU line breezes through in no time.

Couple of years ago at Heathrow we went into the non EU line and it took 1 1/2 hrs to clear immigration. Daughter and granddaughter went through the EU line in no time.

Just the luck of the draw I guess.

Manchester may indeed be quicker, I've never flown from there, but Heathrow certainly isn't. I usually have to wait additional 20-30 minutes for my other half to come through on her Australian passport.

The last two times I visited the UK, both at Christmas, I used my US passport and there were negligible queues for either EU or non-European passport holders. One time we just walked to the front of the waiting area, there was no queue, the other time there were maybe ten people ahead of us and we waited maybe 2-3 minutes.

Continue to avoid Manchester if possible. After winding my way through the incredibly long and bendy queue barriers, I made a joke to the officer at the desk about feeling like an Australian sheep. She was not amused!
