Default UK Licence in KSA

Hi all,

Is my UK licence OK for KSA or should I get an International Driving Permit?

Regards
David

Get an IDP. Search on here and you'l see how useful it is to have one, even as back up.

If you are there long term (ie with iqama) you can get a KSA licence through your UK one.

Yes, but in the short term, it takes away doubt if trying to hire a car.

If the first airport car rental place will not hire without an IDP go to the next counter. Repeat as necessary. This is Saudi afterall. Hundreds of car hire places.

Best thing about hiring a car in KSA is that they never bother about how full the tank is when you return the car as you can fill most cars for under a fiver. Don't expect a Western service even from the named franchises. Cars aren't replaced after 13k - I hired a Mazda with 60k on the clock once.

I use Hertz at Riyadh airport when I visit as they do me a newish Jetta for 171/day (short term) and the counter is nearest to intnl arrivals. I'm supposed to get airline points with each hire but for some reason they are never credited to my account...oh yeah this is Saudi.

"Chip" is slang from British India for a rupee. Now used for the Emirati Dirham and similar currencies. Oh for the days of the Raj !
