When you consider that just 4.6% of Dubai's population earns more than 20k per month, the idea that 45k is "normal standard" is... well...

That's what I thought too. 45k is an excellent salary by Dubai standards and if one cannot save a good portion of that, then they need help!

I thought that if one had a previously high standard of living, then they would only come to the UAE if they could have the same standard of living that they were used to plus be able to save substantially....Otherwise why come here?

how can you guarentee that, lots of people come for different reasons. I actually took a drop in salary compared to what i was having in UK. My house here is smaller (albeit free i suppose). I wouldnt say my standard of living is better, its just different. Today i go to beaches etc, 2 years ago i went hillwalking and rockclimbing

I am not guaranteeing anything! I was just wondering that is all - why would someone drop their standard of living/salary/savings to come and work here

btw - I am more of a hill climbing, bush walking, rainforest exploring person - not a beach person - so probably why I didn't understand

fair point, but living/salary/savings are all well and good, but for me it was other reasons, like love
