Default Stay at home father moving to Abu Dhabi

Hi all,
My wife has been offered a job working in Abu Dhabi starting at the end of August, which is fantastic news! But as I'm going to be a stay at home dad I was wondering if there are any groups set up for dads?!?! Can't seem to fine anything on this! And if not is it acceptable for me to take little man along to mother and child groups? Really not sure on the norms there because of the cultural influence!!
If someone could shed some light on this that would be great!

Thanks
Tony

You need to make sure that your wife is in a profession that enables her to sponsor a husband and family.

Please make sure that she will get housing/schooling/health insurance etc..it is very expensive to live here. There is no way that you could live without any of the above unless the "all inclusive" package was right.

Hi yeah have looked in to these things, yes she's a teacher so am fine on the visa front and the school is sorting her's and our dependant visa's which is great!
As for cost of living and contracts she's been given medical insurance, furnished housing and, schooling when little man is of age. 15500 AED a month which we think should be plenty to live on and save, what do you think?

Any help or advice greatly received!

Cheers

You won't save as much as you may think, but you''ll be ok if all your housing, medical and schooling is covered. 15k play money for 2+1 people is fine.

Going to mum groups etc is also OK. I do think you'll get bored shitless though.

Welcome to BE, you will be just fine, as someone else said you won't save much but it will be a great experience for you all as a family. You may end up getting a job yourself at some stage. Enjoy

Hi guys,
Thanks for the replies any info is helpful at the moment!

She has taken a job at an Aldar group school from which we understand are very good schools.

But your right my main concern is where I can take my son, to ensure he/we are well stimulated and socialised.

aldar schools are good. in the very beginning they were set up by the ex-bsak head and a lot of the teachers and ex-secondary head went to yasmina, and the others.

One of my friends is a stay at home dad and knows a few in Al Reef community. If you're anywhere near that area PM me and I'll see if I can arrange a meet up or something. There's a good number of chaps out there, even in this country.
