Some Compound Prices As Promised

As promised to some - I've compiled an upto date price list of some of the compounds in Riyadh I've visited over the last few weeks - if anyone has other compound prices - please post on this thread for all the new arrivals that will be coming soon.

Prices are per annum and please note - the waiting lists are long - some 18-24months, hence the biggest advice given several times on this site is make sure your employer uses its influence to get you on a compound before you set foot in the country.

There's that in the wiki, you wouldn't mind putting what you've added into it as well?

For 110,000, the duplex places on Kingdom are very good value.

Will put into Wiki - and yes if you can get into Kingdom - it's a very good price for a very good compound - hence one of the longest waiting list - and the compound manager does not accept gifts like some others to bump you up the list - so I've heard from a friend ;)

That's showing some great initiative for all of us lurking on these forums trying to understand what costs are associated with moving to Saudi.

Now if only someone would do something similar for Khobar :)

I've got 4 weeks left before I'll be on the plane so any pointers people can provide in terms of compound prices in Khobar would be appreciated.

Many thanks for this - I've been looking around trying to find these kinds of prices as I've recently been made an offer and my thoughts on the housing money was it just ain't enough (approx SR95k) and looking at these it need be at least 40k more for any kind of decent 2 bed place.

Also as has been said I've told the company if they really want me to go they've got to sort out the compound for me.

I'm sure companies think people are stupid and don't actually check on these kind of things!

I don't think it is that they think people are stupid. Usually companies calculate housing allowances based on a set percentage of basic salary (or similar) and since this has to fit all expats it tends to be on the low side. Western compounds cost a lot more than arab compounds, and since there are fewer western expats than arabs the average gets dragged down...

Don't be too cynical mate, you're not even here yet. You'll get plenty cynical after a few weeks in the country...:p

Be up front with them about your requirements, tell them how much you have discovered it will cost to fulfill those requirements and then tell them you want their help in securing a place.

Unless you are truly one of a kind or they are desperate they are however unlikely to drop everything to satisfy your demands. Contrary to what is normally advised on the forums you have a lot more leverage once your work visa has been issued. That is effectively when you start costing the company a lot of money, and since they are unlikely to be swimming in visa allocations they are effectively stuck with you! However I can't stress enough that unless you are at least 90% happy with the package they have offered you I wouldn't advise this tactic!

And now I will wait for all the pleasant people of the forum to tell me that I am wrong - and crazy - for speaking about this tactic, and that it will never work.
