Default Saudi family visit visa - annoyingly expensive

I've just been looking into a family visit visa for a relative to come to Saudi for a few days and I see the cost is now 2,000 SAR for a single entry visa or 8,000 SAR for a 2 year multi entry visa, per person.

Jeepers!! That is quite a lot. My firm does not cover the cost of visas for peripheral family members so I'll have to pay myself. Slightly annoying.

Any one know any tricks to do it cheaper?

Yes, meet them in Dubai and actually enjoy the visit.

2000 SAR plus compulsory insurance as well.

No-one knows how it's going to work yet but I did read that the Saudis will start to issue tourist visas from next month. Be interesting to compare the price.

A family visit visa is valid for three months extendable for another three. I imagine a tourist visa will only be 30 days max, possibly 15. Can't see how they can charge the same price. Maybe around 500 SAR which is what the family visit visas were before.

It's a fair point about meeting the family elsewhere. My family leaves me this year, and the six thousand it would cost for their visas would be much better spent on me travelling to them and some decent accommodation.
