Get a multiple visit Oman visa (from Oman royal police website if I recall), and drive to a border point, enter and leave Oman at the same time and drive back with a new one.

Visa Run with Go Tours

People do visa runs all the time. The one recent change to be aware of, however, is that Oman has just introduced an e-visa that you need to apply for in advance before turning up at the border. But this is strictly a procedure done online and you get it in 15 minutes.

The Oman online visa takes more than 15 minutes - I've got a couple already and you need to allow overnight to be sure. I have been using them since before they were mandatory and the border guards were not familiar with them so it ended up being more time consuming though hopefully that will now change.

Oman has recently hiked up the visa fees also. For a GCC resident it's 5 Rials and 50 Rials for a one year multi-entry. For non-residents it's 20 Rials I think and not sure if there is even an option for multi-entry.

The Omani Undersecretary, Ministry of Tourism, recently ‘clarified’ things and said that “visa on arrival will always be there” but urged people to use the Evisa system:

Ah. Ok. There's lots of talk about the visa in Qatar as it's a popular R&R break with Dubai made more complicated. Apparently most Omani airport staff aren't familiar with the e-visa either. I wonder why they introduced it.
