It's certainly not must see, but it gets a lot of bad press regarding nightlife etc. it's what you make it as they say.

Abu Dhabi and Doha are indeed similar in certain regards . They're both full of overweight expats with phones strapped to their sides in places like The Captains and leather faced menopausal women in cheap shoes doing brunch.....
Abu Dhabi is a better city though .

I just arrived in Qatar on Saturday from Saudi...just waiting for my job offer to land then I will be starting work next week.
