Not allowed to drive in Qatar
http://iloveqatar.net/forum/read.php...4692#msg-44692
I guess some of you have seen this?
I know some people on this list though and they drive
However i have heard about a changing law where they are trying to restrict cars on the road

Seems salesman is not on the list so I will see how my new filipino gets on next week, I have a feeling it could be a ball ache.

I didn't see 15 year old hormonal Qatari teenagers on the list , i'm sure they'll be ok flying around Al Waab doing doughnuts at 2.00am on a Friday morning

I didn't see candlestick makers on the list. Must have been an oversight....

3 weeks ago we had to put one of the workshop lads down as a workshop supervisor..Came back no problem after originally getting rejected
Im going to throw a spanner in the works here though. Isnt less cars on the road going to make life a lot lot easier in Doha? Will certainly cut down on accidents
I guess these trains or whatever they are making to the industrial area will cut traffic right down too

Re: Not allowed to drive in Qatar
Probably not - it will just make it more like KSA with paid drivers and taxis causing more accidents and mayhem.

Can't see how it will reduce the traffic, wonder how many of those people on the list drive a great deal now. Job descriptions will modify to suit if necessary. Some may use a driving licence as a bargaining chip for a job.
What happens if you add "and driver", to the job title?

Re: Not allowed to drive in Qatar
The pathetic road network, dreadfully controlled traffic signals, massive time over runs on grade separations at junctions and also new routes are far more problematic. Throw in stupid ideas such as putting most of the new malls on the same road just add to traffic congestion. The lack of transport planning and engineering in Doha is laughable.
If they also had proper policing of the roads it would help. I have been here 10 months and yet to see the traffic police do anything except stop cars at the roundabouts on the Corniche, or sitting in their Patrols at signals chatting to each another.
