Sounds like you just want some epic wanks.
Bit complicated but basically i have software on it for architecture rendering etc that I'll need but they don't have that there. Also I do that kind f work outside of my job as well and need a decent PC to make t on.

Not denying the epic wanks, that's always a bonus!

Most practices will have plenty of BIM / Revit desk jockeys for you to palm that shit off to.

20k/month all in isn't bad for someone who's only 21.

You'll be ok. If I were you I'd try to find a villa or flat share for 5-6k a month and save the rest. No sense wasting money on overpriced accommodation in Doha.

Doha isn't Dubai by any stretch of the imagination. While I'm based in the UAE I travel to Doha for work 2-3 times a month and I sort of do like Doha. It feels very Middle Eastern, much more so than the UAE. Despite the skyline and Pearl and West Bay, much of Doha resembles the chaotic jumble of Cairo or Beirut or even Indian cities. On the other hand I'm glad I don't live in Doha!

Go with an open mind, save your money for weekend breaks anywhere easily reachable by Qatar Airways, find a decent group of friends and you should be set for a few years.

I'm already working in the same practice in London, so I'm aware of what kind of resources/workload I'll be doing. I'll need the PC. They do have all the necessary software at the office but I do a lot of stuff in my spare time as well that I'd need specialist software for (environmental modelling, visualization, VR stuff etc).

That's the plan, finding a flatshare seems difficult though, on the internet all I can find are whole flats for rent? There are a few studio flats for about 6k QR a month which seems reasonable, but I'm not sure if living alone would be too quiet for me. I think I'll just book my first week in a cheap hotel and find a flat when I get there, at least then I can see it in person.

That sounds great! I'm not one for fancy shopping malls or sports cars anyway. I'm expecting to get out of Doha an adventure - nothing more, nothing less. And it's only a year so it can't go TOO far wrong, right?

Nothing more - correct
Nothing less - highly unlikely.

Check out AirBnB, I find it's better than Qatar Living or other classified listings. Good luck.

If you are living or have real knowledge about here, please share five your tips about living experience, customs, people…especially in business culture b/c this is the first time I’ve come here to seek manpower partners and set up business relationships with them.
Many thank in advance for your kind reply

Hello Sadea,

Maybe a bit late but...

If you are into cycling/triathlon, my tips would be:

(I didn´t read the whole thread but I saw that someone already mentioned Carbon Wheeld and Triclub Doha, I hope I won´t repeat a lot of info)

For riding alone, I would advice only The Pearl and Ceremonial Road (around 18km loop, boring but relatively safe)

Besides, there are several groups riding on Friday (and some on Saturday) mornings.

Check out Qatar Chain Reaction Facebook Page, people will post when they are riding. For beginners you have the cookie club and for those who take it more seriously Velostar. Both depart from The Pearl Mosque (the Velostars really meet next to the Gulf Club) but if you leave in Pearl there is a small group leaving from here. Velostar has its own Facebook Page as well.

In any case, if you are taking it seriously none of the groups will have the level that you can find back in UK.

About races, there is a triathlon in The Pearl (in October I believe) and some in Aspire. You will find some running races as well from October to May mainly. If you don´t mind travelling, you have more in the Gulf, for example me and my friends will probably go to the Half Ironman of Bahrain and in the UAE the offer is bigger.

Any other doubt let me know, but people are very friendly in these groups and you will find out more about cycling in Qatar once you are here. Hope to see you on the road!
